Upcycling project is a new business PaletteJapan has started in 2023.
Before beautiful fabrics of traditional crafts are disposed of as out-of-spec products, why don't we all revitalize them and make them bloom?

When I started the traditional craft of tsumamizaiku as a hobby, I wondered, "Isn't there a wonderful traditional craft where we live, in Sakai City?"
That is how I came across "Chusen dying", a traditional craft of Sakai City. I visited one of the factories and found some rolled fabrics pushed off to the side that had to be discarded due to slight scratches in the dyeing process. I felt that this traditional dyed fabric was made by human hands one by one, so I did not want them to be thrown away.

You may think "Why not just cut out the slightly scratched part?" However, A "tanmono" is a roll of cloth long enough to make one kimono. And in this case, it was supposed to be a yukata(summer Kimono)…Even the slightest damage could be noticeable when it's is tailored.

The traditional fabric is dyed to the very core of the threads, and both the front and the back have beautiful colors by Chusen dying,
We thought it would be possible to make the most of these beautiful colors by cutting the fabric into small pieces for crafting Tsumamizaiku.

This Tsumamizaiku kit "Hana Iroha" is unique to you because the patterns and colors of the fabrics all come out differently, creating your own one-of-a-kind flower.
We name it "Hana Iroha," meaning the flower made from scratch by human hands. Through this kit, we hope that many people will learn about both the Japanese traditional craft "Tsumamizaiku" and "Chusen dyeing " We made some changes to the existing method of Tsumamizaiku to allow anyone to experience Tsumamizaiku without tweezers.
The kit is so simple that not only children and elderly people but also foreigners can easily understand it.
